‘Don’t count your days make your days count’ – Mohammed Ali
That was the quote on my calendar, it struck me because at that moment I was thinking about enjoying some time off in a few months. I was thinking about how I could relax and enjoy myself once I got to my time off instead of now.
Reading this quote made me realize I was falling into my old habit of looking forward to something after either time had passed or once I completed some task. There was a time in my life that I didn’t live in the present I was always looking ahead to the future.
And this wasn’t how I wanted to live my life. I thought I had moved past this habit of waiting until ______ to enjoy myself but habits are hard to break and this old nugget snuck back up on it.
When have you felt like this? Like you are living life waiting for the good to come. Waiting for the day you could relax, have fun, feel free or whatever else you want to feel.
Reading this quote reaffirmed for me that I didn’t want to wait until ‘fill in the blank’ to live my life, I wanted to live in the now. I wanted to feel free, to feel pleasure and enjoyment every day not just in certain moments in the future. And I certainly didn’t want to wait to live the life I wanted.

Remember it’s natural to look to the future and anticipate it. That’s part of pursuing our desires but it’s important that we live in the present moment. Having pleasure and enjoyment in the everyday is vital to living our best life possible. And a joyous life is made up of joyous days.
