After summer, fall is my favourite time of the year. I love the mix of summer and fall. I enjoy the warmth of summer during the day and the cool, crisp air in the mornings and at night. I love the moment that the trees change colours and the magnificence of the colours emerges. And I love fall clothing; beautiful sweaters and the deep luscious colours of everything.
Its winter now, but as I was looking through my phone photos I came across a few photos from one of the last few warm days of fall. It was a day I chose to slow down and really appreciate the last bit of summer essence before winter came.
While driving to work one day, I decided to park my car in the river valley instead of the boring parking lot where I normally park. After a long day at work instead of rushing home to cook dinner and do chores, I took a few minutes to enjoy the view and take in the warmth. I sat down on the grass and admired the lovely view of the colourful fall leaves and the flow of the river. The sun was slowly setting and as I connected with the earth I took in the wonderful scenic view.
I sat there for a really long time; the unique thing about this moment was I knew that it was a fleeting moment. Soon the leaves would fall and soon snow would come. So I chose to take in the moment. I chose to take in the sound of the rustling leaves and geese honking. I chose to enjoy the feeling of the sun on my face. I chose to be fully in the moment, to be fully in my body. To let go of all the things I had to do and fully be in the present moment.
By taking the time to appreciate what was around me, I was able to connect with the earth. I connected with myself and found true inner peace and joy. I felt refreshed and stress-free.
Often we can get too busy and distracted to stop and just enjoy the present. But it is vital to take a moment and really enjoy life. So what moment can you enjoy today? On that day for me it was being in the river valley, for you it may be going for a hike, playing with your kids, taking a bath or meditating.
So here is your mission, I want you to take time today to really be in a moment, to enjoy it and savour it. Allow all of your senses to be engaged.
Please share your experience in the comments section below, what did you enjoy or what memory do you have of really allowing yourself to be in a moment that was joyful for you?
Have a beautiful day!
